Astronomy Night at the Trolley Museum!
Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Sea Scouts! – 4:00PM – Co-Sponsored with BSA Troop 401, East Haven, CT
Get partial credit for your Night Skies or Astronomy Badges by attending our Astronomy Session beginning at 4:00PM at the Trolley Museum. Astronomical Society of Greater Hartford members will teach the scouts about the basics of astronomy, planets, stars, and more. Scouts and their families may attend this event for free (donations to the Trolley Museum gratefully accepted). Scouts are welcome to stay beyond 5:30PM.
General Public – 5:30PM – Regular admission fares apply ($10/adults, $9/seniors 62+, $7/children)
The first trolley will leave the museum and transport the general public to the telescopes situated along the railway line in the Farm River Marsh. At 6:00PM the Astronomical Society will lecture on the basics of astronomy, review various meteorite samples and familiarize guests with the various telescopes including one you can make on your own.
The larger telescopes will be sighted on Neptune and the Moon. Trolleys will start returning the public to the museum at 8:00PM. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring bug spray.
The Astronomical Society of Greater Hartford is a non-profit incorporated organization of amateur astronomers that was begun in the early 1960s. Our members have interests in all aspects of amateur sky observing including, among other things, astrophotography, telescope making, solar, lunar & occultation observing & cosmology. Our society meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from September to May at Copernicus Planetarium, Wells Street, CCSU, New Britain, Conn. at 7:30 P.M.
